Inventory Time

Since I am doing nothing but sitting around and watching football tonight I guess I can put some thoughts together for a post.

Man did this week fly by. I guess the travel will do that for you. And it’s going to be another busy week up coming. So hold on to your horses.

Thursday I had to drive down to Cincinnati for inventory at our General Polymers plant. I hit the road by about 10:00am on Thursday. I had burned a couple of Howard Stern shows on to a CD so I was listening to that for most of the way down to help pass along the time. For the most part the drive was pretty uneventful. It was smooth sailing until I got to Columbus. There was an accident on the highway that had traffic down to stop and go. But once I got past that it was pretty smooth. Of course when I was about 50 miles from Cincy it decided to pour down rain. But I made good time. I got there is just over 4 hours. I met up with David who was also helping with inventory at our hotel and we got checked in. After settling in we decided to stop and have some lunch at Ruby Tuesdays next to our hotel. I figured we had better eat good because I wasn’t sure what time we’d be working until. After lunch we made our way to the plant. We met up with Chad who runs the shipping department. He was our main contact for our trip. We hung out in the shipping office and talked with some of the truck drivers as they were getting their daily business done. We just sat around and observed how hectic it can be in there. After killing an hour or so we were ready to get counting. We broke up into a couple of teams and started counting paint cans. It is about as exciting as it sounds. We had to write up inventory tickets of what the products were and how much was there. We did that until about 9:00pm. As we were getting ready to call it a night at the plant we stopped off in Chad’s office. Next thing I know all of the lights kicked off in the whole plant. It was pretty freaky with everything going off. We were just about done for the night anyway so we shut it down there and headed back to the hotel. It was going on 9:30 and we weren’t hungry but we didn’t feel like sitting in our hotel room so we decided to stop at the local bar, The Garage, across the street from our hotel for a couple of drinks. We had a few cold beverages and watched some of the World Series and college football before calling it a night around 11:00pm.

We had to be at the plant by 6am on Friday so we had decided to meet about 5:30 in the lobby. We drove over to the plant and made it there for the kickoff meeting. The entire facility was doing inventory on Friday so they had all of the teams and everything set up and all of the fun that goes into that. Again it was a very exciting day of counting paint. We helped out and did our thing walking around and trying to help wherever we could. Chad took care of us though and had us on the easier tasks. Things went along pretty smooth with inventory so that when it came to about 2pm Chad said that they had things pretty much in hand and we could get out of there early. But not before we stopped up and picked up a GP golf shirt and windbreaker for our troubles. After we scored our goodies we made our way back to the hotel for some much needed sleep. I forgot how bad it sucks to wake up at 5am. Dave was heading to Univ. of Miami for the night so I was on my own for dinner. After my nap and a shower I decided to go out to eat at Union Centre which is an area that has a bunch of restaurants and shopping. I didn’t have a taste for anything special so I decided to go to Champp’s. Since they have a wide range of everything I figured that was a safe bet. I grabbed a seat at the bar and ordered a Christian Moerlein Oktoberfest beer. It was pretty tasty stuff. I had that and a bowl of French onion soup for an appetizer as I watched the bartenders run around like chickens with their heads cut off. It was pretty busy but they had 3 people behind the bar. And they were all dressed up for Halloween. Some of the wait staff had some pretty good costumes. Of course there were a few people dressed as their favorite Bengal players. After my soup, I decided on a chicken ranch wrap which was a pretty tasty sandwich. I drank a couple more beers there and decided to head back towards the hotel. I didn’t want to sit in my room by myself so I stopped at The Garage to see what was happening there. I was the most crowded that I have ever seen the place but I ended up sitting at the bar and watched the World Series. After I had enough, I made the walk back across the street and called it a night.

I woke up today and had some breakfast at the hotel before hitting the road. I surely wasn't looking forward to the 4 hour ride home. I topped off the tank and got moving around 10:30am. On the way back I decided to stop at an outlet mall that I had seen on our last trip down. They had a sign for a Nike outlet and I figured I would give it a look and it would also help to split up the driving. The store was OK but I wasn’t overly impressed. I did pick up a mock turtleneck shirt and I golf shirt. I also stopped at the adidas store and a couple others. My biggest score of the day was some pants for work that were 2 for $30. After the shopping spree I figured I better get a move on if I was going to be able to watch Ohio State play. Again I listened to some Stern shows for most of the ride back. It was really strange weather on the ride though. When I was shopping it was cold and windy but the sun was out. But I passed through a lot of rain on my way home. And then as I got closer to home the wind was blowing like crazy. There were a couple of times when the car got blown around pretty good. But I made it home safe and sound. I kicked back and watched football and relaxed for the rest of my day today.

Tomorrow Ron and Matt had talked about going to watch NFL games at Beef O’Brady’s. And then it’s back to the grind on Monday.

I am looking forward to next weekend as it is the annual ND/Chicago weekend. The exception is that we have cut out the ND portion of the weekend so it will just be a Chicago weekend trip. And we are flying this year instead of making the road trip. So that is always a good time.

Until next time…

I am alive!

This prety much sums up the world series.

Remain calm...all is well. I am in my hotel room in cincinnati. But I will put together some sort of post and update on what has been going on.

Thanks for hanging in there.
