Chicago, my kind of town

OK..I am pissed. I just wanted to say that. I usually write up my post on a word document and then paste that in the blogger form. But tonight I just wanted to put a quick post together because I have shit to do and my lazy ass has been watching Survivor, CSI and the WVU and Louisville game. So I tried to just type my post and publish it and I fricking lost it somehow. Mother fuckers!!! (OK my venting is over)

I am getting ready to pack my shit and head to Chicago tomorrow. And I am ready for a weekend away to spread my wings and cut loose with the boys. This project at work has been a big pain in the arse this week. And we are back in the Nati next week for our big presentation next week. So I need a relaxing weekend. In all honesty, that is a bunch of crap. I have like zero stress in my life, but this at least makes me sound like I do.

This trip is in year number 13 for Murph and his crew. I have been involved for the last 4 years on this trip, if memeory serves me right. The trips started with a drive to South Bend to watch the Irish play and then after the game keep heading west and spend the night in Chicago. The last couple of years we have nixed the game and stopped in ND for a tailgate beer or two. Last year we stopped at The Linebacker for a couple of rounds of drinks before donating some money to the Horseshoe casino in Gary, IN.

This year we decided to man up and skip ND and just head to Chicago. And we also went the adult way and bought plane tickets. This way we don't have to listen to certain people complain about how hung over they are for the 5 or 6 hour ride home.

I am pretty jacked up that we are going to stay at The House of Blues hotel in Chicago. On-line it looks pretty sweet. We stayed at the Hard Rock hotel last year and I thought that place was awesome. I am hoping that HOB is in that same league. Our pal Brett who live in Chicago hooked us up with a pretty good deal too.

I am going with the intention of trying to remember a lot of details and come back and write up a fantastic trip report. But we all knwo that some of the details may be a bit skecthy after a few too many drinks this weekend. But I am going to do my best to try.

OK...I really have to get packing now. I aslo wanted to do my NFL picks today because I am most likely going to be in meetings and shit all day tomorrow. And I want to get out of work early as well so I have to do them tonight.

Sweet Home Chicago

I can honestly say that I am really looking forward to the upcoming weekend. I think it has tree-mendous upside potential. Last year’s event was an instant classic, but will a little work and effort I am sure that last years trip can be topped.

As I look to the future I am going to make an attempt to emulate ESPN.com’s Bill Simmons and put some preview thoughts with a little bit of Wedding Crashers quotes tied in.

Jeremy Grey: John? I need to see you right away. It's important.
John Beckwith: What's going on?
Jeremy Grey: We got three big weeks ahead of us. It's wedding season, kid!
John Beckwith: You sandbaggin' son of a bitch!

The crew is assembled and ready to go. There is a lot of talk flying through the email with people calling their shots for the weekend. So let’s see what you got folks!

John Beckwith: What are you going to do for an encore? Walk on water?

Last year’s trip had a lot of memorable moments. Can they be topped this year?

Jeremy Grey: Rule #76: No excuses. Play like a champion!

Figured there had to be one Notre Dame Reference in there since that is the reason behind this trip.

Jeremy Grey: Gloria, I've been doing a lot of soul searching recently, and I think I'm ready to take this relationship, our relationship to the next level.
Gloria Cleary: Jeremy, I am so ready to take it to the next level.
Jeremy Grey: Really?
Gloria Cleary: Yeah. Do you want to watch me with another girl? How about those Brazilian twins we met at the ball game?

Hey a guy can hope. Maybe the rooms of HOB have some magic potions included in them

John Beckwith: Hey, listen. What angle are you going to play here?
Jeremy Grey: I am going to go with the balloon animal display. For the kids. And then when she comes near, guess who is the broken man, haunted past? How about you?
John Beckwith: I am going to go dance with the little flower girl. Oh, and I might be a charter member of Oprah's book club.
Jeremy Grey: It's all deadly.

Get your stories ready gentlemen. There are a million beautiful babies in the city of Chicago. Just ripe for the picking.

John Beckwith: You better lock it up.
Jeremy Grey: No, you lock it up!
John Beckwith: You lock it up!
Jeremy Grey: You lock it up!
John Beckwith: You lock it up!
Jeremy Grey: Lock it up!

Remember fellas we are all grown ups. No need to be a hero in a bar. Let’s keep our cool and have a good time. No incidents, please.

Bratty Kid: I want a bicycle.
Jeremy Grey: Listen, a bicycle is going to take a lot of balloons and frankly, uncle Jeremy is a bit tired. How about I make you something else?
Bratty Kid: I just want a bicycle!
Jeremy Grey: Why... why are you yelling at me?
Bratty Kid: Make me a bicycle, clown!
Jeremy Grey: All right, I'm going to make you a bicycle. But I don't want to make you a bicycle.
Bratty Kid: Shut your mouth, funny guy, and make it.

Not a lot to add here, it’s just one of my favorite quotes.

Jeremy Grey: Go out there and get some strange ass!

Isn’t this really everybody’s goal?

Jeremy Grey: You and I both know I'm a phenomenal dancer!

Gene Gene, the Dancing machine says, “Hang Uppes, here we come. I know I drag your asses there every trip but it has always delivered.”

Flip: Yeah! Crabcakes and Football. That's what Maryland does!

College football and Chicago road trip weekends. Does it get any better???

It’s a long race guys, make sure you get some food in the tank.

John Beckwith: Don't waste your time on girls with hats. They tend to be very proper.
Jeremy Grey: Yeah? Well, the proper girl in the hat just eye-fucked the shit out of me.

Tommy, we really should hang out more!

Jeremy Grey: Erroneous! Erroneous! Erroneous on both accounts!

Dude, did you see me making out with that chick? It was her birthday and she was hot! Yeah but it was her 50th Birthday not her 40th!

John Beckwith: You look beat. Soft mattress?
Jeremy Grey: Soft mattress? Yeah, it could have been the soft mattress. Or the midnight rape. Or the nude gay art show that took place in my room last night. One of those three probably contributed to the lack of sleep.

There are many tales in the Windy City. Let’s see if we can add to the list this weekend.

John Beckwith: Seamus O'Toole.
Jeremy Grey: Bobby O'Shea.
John Beckwith: I'm ready to get drunk!

Bring on the ND/Chicago Weekend!!!

See you in Chicago,

Sunday night thoughts...

Big win today for the Brownies. Pulls them into a tie with the SuperBowl Champion Pittsburgh Stillers. Who would have thunk it?

Good to see Ocho Cinco having some fun out there today although I was a little disappointed with the dance. I expected more from a varsity letterman.

Did you hear the call in the Iowa game yesterday? Kind of gay! Step into the office. You're fucking fired! Love the awkward silence at the end.

Great headline on Cleveland's own Newsnet5 website. Sombody had to be giddy that this got posted. USC/Oregon St

Anybody card this kid chugging tequila the other night? Oh wait he's the MVP of the World Series.

You have to ask your self "What would Ed Hochuli do?"

I am in town this week so maybe we can have a little more consistency in posting.

Have a good week!

Week 8

Sad news to hear of the passing of Red Auerbach yesterday. I watched a couple of items about him on ESPN last night and again this morning. He truly was a pioneer in the game. We need to go take a photo of the statue in Boston next year. I’m putting that on the request list now.

On to some football picks:

Texas at Titans -3 Vincanity is alive and well in Nashville. Maybe I can break out some of my Titans gear that has been packed away.

Jaquars at Eagles -4 1/2 B Leftwich is expected to miss today’s game. I’m taking the Eagles at home.

Falcons at Bengals – 4 1/2 Who Dey? I loved the Ocho Cinco call this week. Hey if anything it makes it fun to watch Chad run his mouth. Hugh!!!

Buccaneers at Giants -9 The Giants defense looked pretty good last week. I think the will eat up the rookie QB on the road.

49ers at Bears -17 1/2 Man is that a lot of points to give up. But I am going to take the Bears defense at home. (Unimportant side note: I think they are wearing their orange uni’s today)

Cardinals at Packers -4.5 The Cardinals have looked like crap the last two weeks. I expect some sort of bounce back today from Matt Leinart and Edge.

Seahawks at Chiefs -4 Who the hell are the starting QB’s here? Jim Zorn? Len Dawson? I really have no clue. I’m taking the home team.

Ravens at Saints -1 ½ Tough game to call here. I am not sold on the Saints right now. But the Ravens are not that good either. I am looking for a low scoring game to be won by Matt Stover.

Rams at Chargers -8 ½ Just so we can sing the song…
San Diego Super Chargers! Big game for LDT today.

Steelers at Raiders + 9 I think Big Ben is going to play today after being concussed last week. They probably do not need him anyway.

Jets at Browns -2 J-E-T-S… JETS, JETS, JETS! Yes I am trying the reverse psych thing here. If I pick against my Browns maybe I can be surprised. Plus since I am not going, it may be a guaranteed win.

Colts at Broncos -3 I think the Broncos pull it out today. That sounds funny. But I’m thinking it will be crummy weather and the loud stadium will help the Broncos beat P Manning today.

Cowboys at Panthers -5 The Cowboys are a mess. I don’t think that either of their quarterbacks are very good. Carolina has a defense that is too good for the mess in Big D.

Patriots at Vikings +2 I am weary about this game but I am going with Tom Brady and the Pats.
